Infant Massage Instruction in Harrisonburg, VA

Infant Massage Instruction

Learn to support your baby's sleep, digestion, and nervous system with your own hands. Private instruction in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Infant massage supports your baby's nervous system, digestion, sleep, and bonding, and it gives you something concrete to do with your hands in those early months when so much feels uncertain. This is not a service performed on your baby while you watch. You learn the techniques directly and are able to do this yourself, every day, for as long as it serves your baby.

As a Certified Educator of Infant Massage through the International Association of Infant Massage, Tai Blakey teaches you hands-on, step-by-step, in a calm and private setting. Tai is also Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (BCTMB) with 20 years of clinical training.

About Infant Massage Instruction

What is infant massage instruction?

Infant massage instruction is a private, 45-minute session in which you learn to massage your own baby. Rather than receiving a treatment, you are taught a sequence of gentle, age-appropriate techniques you can use at home. The session is offered at Refreshing Effects in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and is appropriate for babies from newborn through 12 months.

How does a session work?

The session is built around you and your baby, at your baby's pace.

You bring your baby. The session is hands-on with your own child, in a warm, quiet room. Your baby sets the rhythm. If they need to feed, rest, or be held partway through, that is part of the work, not an interruption.

Tai teaches, you do. Tai demonstrates each technique and then guides you as you practice it yourself. You learn how to read your baby's cues, when to begin, when to pause, and how much pressure is right for their size and stage.

You leave able to do it at home. The goal is independence. By the end of the session, you have a sequence you can repeat on your own, every day, for as long as it serves your baby.

What infant massage supports

  • Sleep. Gentle, consistent touch helps regulate your baby's nervous system and can support longer, calmer sleep.

  • Digestion. Specific techniques can ease gas, constipation, and the discomfort that comes with a developing digestive system.

  • Nervous system regulation. Predictable, loving touch helps your baby feel safe and settled, which supports overall regulation in the early months.

  • Bonding. Massage is a daily ritual of connection between you and your baby, and a way to feel confident and capable in those first uncertain months.

Who is infant massage instruction for?

This session is for parents and caregivers in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area who want to:

  • Support their baby's sleep, digestion, and comfort

  • Build confidence in handling and soothing their newborn

  • Create a daily bonding ritual with their baby

  • Learn a skill they can use at home, not a one-time service

It is appropriate for babies from newborn through 12 months. Parents who are still pregnant and want to prepare ahead are welcome to reach out about timing.

How is this different from a baby massage service?

In many places, infant massage is something done to your baby by a practitioner. Here, the entire purpose is to teach you. You are the one who learns the techniques, so the benefit continues every day at home long after the session ends. The value is not a single treatment. It is a skill you keep.
